2014 Round-Up

GMS Thermal work on a variety of different projects, both internally and externally, which are never mentioned here on our website. Therefore, to finish off the year here's a round-up of some of the projects you may not have heard about or seen on our website.

Alder Hey Children's Hospital, Liverpool

Date Delivered: June 2014 and October 2014

Product: 12 x ThermaPak Packages (pictured above)

Details: The new Alder Hey Children's Hospital will offer world-class staff in a state-of-the-art environment. The new facility will provide improved clinical areas, operating theatres and Accident & Emergency Department as well as play areas and accommodation for parents. The ThermaPak packages form the basis of the hot water supply for the entire facility. Armstrong Pumps Test Facility, Manchester

Date Delivered: May 2014

Product: 17,500 Litre and 9,500 Litre Mild Steel Test Vessels to ASME VIII

Details: Armstrong Fluid Technology opened it's state of the art UK Headquarters in October of this year. The facility will focus on an extensive Research and Development Programme which the thermal stores will play a big part in. The thermal stores are part of the 'in-house' test facility and will be used to test Armstrong pumps. The buffer vessels were completed with 316L Stainless Steel sparge pipes and diffusers to ensure that tests are performed in a controlled and stable environment.

GlaxoSmithKline Manufacturing Plant, Worthing

Date Delivered: November 2014

Product: 24,000 Litre Boiler Hotwell Feed Tank

Details: As part of GSK's upgrade plans for it's UK manufacturing sites a 24,000 litre Stainless Steel Boiler Hotwell Feed Tank was provided. The Worthing Plant is one of the oldest in the company and has been manufacturing drugs since 1960 and the tank will be used to replace existing plant, as part of upgrades around the site. GMS worked closely with GSK's representatives at Projective to ensure that the design, build and installation was up to the high standards of GSK, advising on design standards, creating lifting plans and overseeing installation.

Thorpe Underwood Estate, York

Date Delivered: June 2014

Product: 3 x Versatherm Packages (2000 Litre Stainless Steel Vessel, Brazed PHE's and Unvented Kit - Packaged and Skid-Mounted)

Details: The Thorpe Underwood Estate is home to Queen Ethelburgas College and Chapter House Preparatory School, GMS have a long history with the school and have worked closely with the estates team over recent years to renew existing plant equipment and assist in the expansion of the site. The versatherm packages are part of this further development to provide an additional heating source to the site.

Chester Zoo, Chester

Date Delivered: October 2014

Product: 3 x 12,000 Litre Thermal Store Buffer Vessels c/w Specialist Coatings and Grounding Assembly

Details: The Islands project is said to be the "biggest and most ambitious development in UK zoo history", the new site will house a variety of animals including orangutans, gibbons, crocodiles and lizards, increasing the overall site by 12%. The thermal store vessels will provide storage for 36,000 litres of hot water for the new development. To find out more information visit the zoo's site.

London Clinic, Central London

Date Delivered: November 2014

Product: 5 x ThermaPak Packages (500-1000 Litre Stainless Steel Storage Vessel, Gasketed PHE and Unvented Kit)

Details: The London Clinic is one of the UK's biggest private hospitals, situated on Marylebone Road, it provides over 250 beds, 17 operating theatres and various departments. The new ThermaPak Packages will provide hot water to the new theatres and replace some existing degraded units within the Wedge Plant room. Due to access restrictions within the hospital (the plant room is situated at basement level) the packages were built in our factory, dis-assembled and re-built on site by our personnel.
